I’m 22 now. This is my first year in the big void of absolutely no useful milestones. Just gotta hold out a few decades for my senior discount now.
But anyway, I’m not gonna tell you what to post for me. You gotta figure it out. ;)

No more useful milestones? At my age, I consider waking up each morning to be a milestone.

Happy Birthday!

At 25 you can rent a car.

What hellhole do you live in? I’ve been able to rent cars since 21... Although UHaul will rent massive trucks to anyone with a licence so I’m not sure why rental companies don’t trust teenagers with econoboxes.

It’s 21 here, I believe. I don’t think there’s a law governing it, though, so it depends on the company and/or location.

At 30, you start getting more respect at work. At 35, your body starts to fall apart if you don’t actively take care of it and you realize you aren’t immortal. So you have that to look forward to.

As a car enthusiast double your age I can tell you that people might try to make a big deal about 30 and 40, but they just fly by. Have fun while you are young! But don’t wait too long to have a family either - kids only get harder as you get older!

When you turn 25 your car insurance will get a lot cheaper, if your record is relatively clean.

You can usually rent under 25, but the rate definately changes for most major companies and sometimes they require tyou to get supplemental insurance depending on the car if under 25. Turo, a different animal, can sometimes even be 30 or higher.

This. I’m not looking forward to insuring three boys. Maybe I’ll get them one license and they can share.

My dad didn’t pay for my insurance. Or my car. Hell, he made me buy my mom’s car from them.

My dad paid for my insurance until I left for grad school (I didn’t have a car in college). He paid for my first car, but I paid him back (with interest). He did let me skip payments for three months one summer when I was unemployed.

Can’t remember what it is on the Soul, but my Escort was just $28/month. And that was for a bit more than it’s actually worth. It might be higher once I get it reinsured, though...

But yeah, I somehow got super lucky there. I have no tickets, no [reported] accidents, (got rear-ended once, but neither car had any damage so it would have screwed us both over to deal with that) and not even a written warning. I’ve been pulled over six times and let go on each occasion. So I dunno if my rates really will get much lower, but I’d gladly keep the Escort forever if I can get it below $20.

Most of the big rental companies will rent a car to someone under 25 (but 21 or over), but with a significant fee attached. I rented a car when I was 21, and I think the fee was around $30/day. That supercharged Pontiac Grand Prix was able to spin the front tires admirably, though.

Bullshit, my car insurance was almost identical to that when I was 24, it actually went up like $20 per 6 months. Clean driving record.

I’m seconding previous posters and will add that around 33 you begin to suspect you’re no longer a teenager

My dad actually sat me down when I was 10 years old to tell me he was not going to buy a car, so if I wanted one I had better start saving my money.

I bet a high risk car like that keeps them from dropping rates for you.

Kinja'd!!! E90M3 > shop-teacher
12/08/2016 at 11:42

It was only $100 more per 6 months than my 1997 explorer. It was like 540 per 6 months for the M3.

Interesting. That’s not too bad of a rate for that age person and that kind of car. I wonder if your insurance company drops their rate sooner than age 25.

I’ve got Geico and they were like half of everyone else. I think it might be because my parents switched to Geico in like 2008 or something and when I went to get insurance on my own in 2013, they said I had a policy with them for like 5 years already, I bet that helped.
